Piedmont High School’s girls soccer team got a 2-0 win at Encinal on January 29. The Highlanders are now 5-6-2 on the year, 2-3-1 in West Alameda County Conference Foothill division play.
Piedmont scored first in the 40th minute when Ava Sauer sent a long pass to the front of the net. Hannah Sullivan tipped the ball to the net and the Jets goalkeeper muffed the save.
The game stayed 1-0 deep into the second half. In the 70th minute, Kyla Williams feathered a perfect long pass through the Encinal defense. Juliana Thornborrow got behind the defender and sent the ball into the far right side of the net for a 2-0 lead.
The Highlanders had multiple other scoring opportunities, getting at least two more shots on net in the first half. Encinal had a great chance in front in the 67th minute but Piedmont goalkeeper Friedie Schickedanz made the save.
Piedmont is next scheduled to play at Berkeley on January 31.
