Piedmont High School’s girls soccer dropped a heartbreaker to Alameda at Witter Field on Jan. 22, falling 2-1. The game-winning goal came six minutes into stoppage time.
Kelly Wu got a shot off that Friedie Schickedanz got a hand on, tipping it up to the cross bar. But Holly Becker crashed the goal and put the rebound in for the Hornets.
The Highlanders had a 1-0 lead in the first half when Elia Kwong got a shot on goal that was saved by Isota Finlaw. But the rebound went right to Ryo Woltag on the left side and she put it home for a 1-0 Highlanders lead in the 15th minute.
Alameda tied the score in the first minute of first half stoppage time when Elsa Chin set up Wu, who from straight ahead put the ball into the right-hand corner of the net.
On Jan. 24, Piedmont fell 9-0 at home against Bishop O’Dowd. The Dragons got four goals from Chloe Keating and two from Abby Forsgen. Paloma John-Baptiste, Remi Hayes and Katelyn Wong had single goals for Bishop O’Dowd.
Chloe Toyama and Kyla Williams were out sick for the game. Kwong and Louisa Symkowick left the game with injuries.
Piedmont is next scheduled to play at Encinal on Jan. 29.
