The Piedmont Anti-Racism and Diversity Committee (PADC) invites K-12 students to submit their art or writing inspired by the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

All student work will be featured in the fourth annual MLK Art and Writing Showcase, part of the 28th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration on Monday, Jan. 20 at the Alan Harvey Theater at 11 a.m.

All student participants will be entered into a drawing to win one of 10 gift cards to Mulberry’s. The deadline is Wednesday, Jan. 15.

The theme of this year’s celebration is “Separate is Never Equal: What Unites Us?” Students are asked to create a piece of art or writing in response to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s quote:

“I never intend to adjust myself to segregation and discrimination. I never intend to become adjusted to religious bigotry. I never intend to adjust myself to economic conditions that will take necessities from the many to give luxuries to the few.”

Art should be made on 8.5. X 11 paper; writing should be limited to one page. It can be dropped off at the front office of any Piedmont school or uploaded to PADC’s website. Students should include their name, grade, school, and contact information with their work.
