The Blotter | Woman arrested after auto burglary

Possessed meth, gave false name and identification

A woman was arrested on Dec. 9 when she came to Piedmont Police Department headquarters to retrieve a vehicle release for a BMW suspected of being involved in an auto burglary two days earlier. She was found to possess suspected methamphetamine.

The original incident happened on Maxwelton Road at 1:31 p.m. on Dec. 7. Unknown suspects took approximately $1,130 worth of gardening tools from the back of a Ford F250, according to Piedmont Police Department Captain Chris Monahan. He said the suspect vehicle was a BMW 328i.

The plate on the vehicle matched one for a dealership in San Jose. Captain Monahan said the owner of the dealership had the BMW that the plate belonged to on his showroom floor.

The next day, an officer saw a BMW 328i with a false paper plate in the parking lot of 5100 Broadway. Piedmont Police then conducted surveillance on the vehicle. A woman claimed the vehicle was hers.

Captain Monahan said the woman gave police a false name and showed a photograph of a driver’s license with that name. He said a records check with the Department of Motor Vehicles found no such person but the vehicle was registered to the false name.

The woman was allowed to leave the scene. A search of the vehicle came up empty. The vehicle was towed for an expired registration.

At 1:21 p.m. on Dec. 9, the woman came to the Police Administrative Building in Piedmont to retrieve the vehicle, according to Captain Monahan. She again used the false name and was detained. Captain Monahan said a search of her person turned up 10.34 grams of suspected methamphetamine.

He said the woman claimed she was having a panic attack, so she was transported to Highland Hospital. There, she provided her actual name. A records check found she had three warrants for her arrest, including carjacking and possession of a stolen vehicle. After she was medically cleared, she was taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin and charged with forgery, lying about her name, possession of the methamphetamine and the fake registration.
