Soren passed away unexpectedly in a tragic car accident on Wednesday morning, November 27th, while home for Thanksgiving.
Our dear Soren.
He was vibrant, loving, and charming. He shone bright, instantly enhancing, and elevating every room he entered. His absence leaves an enormous void in the lives of his parents, brothers, family, huge circle of friends and community at large.
As the youngest of three, he held a special place and added spark and sparkle to his family. His family will forever hold his memory in their hearts and be guided by his example of how to live a life full of joy, caring, and happiness.
Raised in Piedmont, Soren graduated from Piedmont High School in 2023. He possessed a rare combination of attributes — excellence in the classroom and on the sports field and close relationships with friends and family in everyday life. An honors student at Piedmont High, he had near-perfect grades, despite being tardy almost every morning. He played three varsity sports in high school and had a huge impact on all of them, especially lacrosse, where he started all four years. He was a truly fierce competitor, and his teammates were drawn to his leadership and passion, selecting him to be lacrosse captain during his junior and senior years. His time in Piedmont was enriched by being part of his inseparable crew of buddies — together, they walked through every stage of life.
Soren was a sophomore at USC, majoring in biology. He was a loved and respected member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and a valued member of the USC men’s club lacrosse team. He was so proud of being a Trojan!
Soren was kind and joyful and admired by all. Soren loved animals, and his dog Ruby held a special place in his heart. He was an adventurous spirit who enjoyed skiing, scuba diving, and rock climbing — and most recently –learning to surf. His time with us was a blessing, and we will miss him every day.
Soren is survived by his parents (Robert and Kristen), older brothers and sister-in-law (Aidan and Colin (Nicole)), eight grandparents, seven aunts, seven uncles, and fifteen cousins.
A service and celebration of Soren’s life will be held on Saturday, January 4th , at 11:00 a.m. at the Piedmont Community Church. A reception will follow at the Piedmont Community Hall.
In lieu of flowers and to honor Soren’s love of animals and his favorite sport, lacrosse, the family prefers donations to the Milo Foundation , or to the Oakland Lacrosse Club a non-profit organization (see below) that brings the sport of lacrosse to Oakland public schools through PE, after-school, and summer programs.
Oakland Lacrosse Club | In Memory of Soren Dixon and Jack Nelson: Leaving a Legacy of Courage, Dedication, and Love
Soren Dixon and Jack Nelson were exceptional 4-year varsity lacrosse players at Piedmont High, helping secure league titles in 2021, 2022, and 2023. In their senior year, they advanced to the 2023 Division 2 NCS Final as the No. 3 seed, where they fell 8-9 in double overtime to the No. 1 seed, Tamalpais. Their impact on the lacrosse community extended beyond the field as both Soren and Jack volunteered their time coaching youth teams in the area.
In this difficult time, we honor Soren and Jack by continuing the work they were so passionate about—sharing their love for lacrosse and growing the game they cherished. Just as they brought light, enthusiasm, and passion to the field, we are committed to keeping that flame alive by supporting the lacrosse community and ensuring their legacy continues to grow. Soren and Jack’s love for the game will forever inspire us to play, teach, and give back, just as they would have done.
