The Piedmont Mountain Bike Team, based in Piedmont, California, is gearing up for the 2025 season. As a part of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA)’s NorCal League, the team offers students a platform to develop mountain biking skills and compete in the growing sport of mountain biking.

The Piedmont Mountain Bike Team is made of two teams: the High School Team for 9th-12th grade and the Development (Devo) Team for middle schoolers in 6th-8th grade. The teams welcome students of all skill levels and emphasize fun, inclusivity, and equity in teaching biking as a lifelong sport. The Piedmont Mountain Bike Team is proud to have one of the highest ratios of female riders and female coaches in the Northern California league. The team includes students that have just gotten started in the sport to riders that are racing competitively.

Piedmont has a strong mountain bike culture due to the town’s proximity to the East Bay Regional Park system and to Marin County where mountain biking started in the 1960s. There are many cyclists that are a part of the community and have many places to ride. The team rides are frequently held in Joaquin Miller Park and Redwood Park. Over the season, team rides will also take place on trails in Marin, Santa Cruz, and other local favorites. Racing is not required, and there is a category for riders who only want to ride on Sundays as adventure riders.

For those who like to race, there are four season races that show off California’s beauty in Monterey, Folsom, La Grange (near Yosemite), Novato, and the championship race in Lake County. Piedmont competes with teams from the East Bay/Central region, which includes twenty other schools from Albany to San Luis Obispo. Races are incredibly festive and often involve camping in a natural setting. Races emphasize safety, personal growth, being part of the larger mountain biking community, and fun!

The team is looking for interested riders at the high school and middle school level. We especially welcome and support female riders. The season runs from January through May and registration is required before the end of December.
