Girls Tennis | Piedmont ends regular season with win

Piedmont High School’s girls tennis team finished its regular season with a 6-1 win over host Bishop O’Dowd on Oct. 29. The Highlanders end the regular season with a 10-10 overall record, 5-3 in the West Alameda County Conference Foothill Division.

Carolina Romanczuk beat Ashley Carroll at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-3. Kate Jumper survived a tough match at No. 2 against Diya Shah, 7-6 (10), 6-1. Faith Chin defeated Ileana Adams at No. 4, 6-1, 6-0. The Dragons got their point at No. 3, where Ayla Akcaoglu outlasted Arianna Kortum, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.

In doubles, Piedmont’s Samantha Huynh and Emma Eisemon defeated Sonja Abid and Ellie Wong at No. 1, 6-1, 6-3. Emma Chan and Maddie Tran beat Lauren Choi and Penny Wong at No. 2, 6-4, 6-2. Inara Mehta and Abigail Call downed Fiona Wood and Sloane Kau in the closest match of the day at No. 3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Highlanders coach Jim Landes said he believes the team’s 5-3 league mark will be good enough to qualify for the North Coast Section Division 2 team playoffs.

“We might get a chance to avenge some of our non-league losses,” Landes said, naming Lick-Wilmerding, University and Marin Academy as some of those losses. “I believe we have a good chance against any of those three.”

The WACC tournament will be held November 8-9. NCS team playoffs begin Nov. 12.
