Cross Country | Piedmont runners compete at Mariner Invitational

Piedmont High School’s cross country teams have had to fight a bug the past few weeks but the teams still competed well at the Mariner Invitational at Hayward High on Oct. 19.

Sebastien Swain finished sixth in the Boys Open Division race, despite feeling under the weather. Swain ran the three-mile course in 16 minutes, 26.25 seconds. Noah Sohn was 38th in 17:16.16. Thomas Ero came home 45th in a personal-best of 17:25.61. Devon Thai was 93rd in 18:16.23 while Oliver Horsley was 145th in 19:14.07. Henry Horsley was 150th in 19:19.27.

The Highlanders scored 296 points for 12th place. Dublin won the division with 70 points.

Nicolas Rivas of Galileo-San Francisco took first place in 15:53.41.

Piedmont’s girls competed in the Championship Division and finished 11th with 268 points. Leighton Mand was 43rd in a PR of 19:38.57 with Viviane Oesterer 53rd in 19:53.33, also a PR. Cora Chun was 69th in 20:18.79. Skylar Best finished 81st in 20:38.06, right in front of Caroline Taylor in 82nd in 20:39.67.

Mara Kemp-Malone was 89th in a PR of 20:58.43.

Piedmont concludes the WACC season on Oct. 23, then will prepare for the WACC Championships at Hayward on Nov. 9.
