Piedmont High School’s girls tennis team swept visiting Castro Valley on Oct. 17, 7-0. It was the final home match of the season. Before the match, the team honored seniors Emma Eisemon, Carolina Romanczuk, Abigail Call and Alina Shahid.
The Highlanders are now 6-5 on the season, 4-1 in West Alameda County Conference Foothill Division play. They finish up with road matches at Alameda (Oct. 23), Berkeley (Oct. 24) and Bishop O’Dowd (Oct. 29).
Romanczuk defeated Castro Valley’s Malia Robinson at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-1. Kate Jumper beat Allie Hurica at No. 2, 6-0, 6-1. Arianna Kortum downed Kasey Mulats at No. 3, 6-2, 6-1. Lila Rosen took care of Alayna Sershen at No. 4, 6-3, 6-3. In doubles, Eiseman and Samantha Huynh defeated Elly Ly and Abby Wong at No. 1, 6-1, 6-3. Shahid and Call beat Madison Lee and Bonny Huang at No. 2, 6-4, 6-1. And Ella Thomasson and Chiara Silvio downed Hazen Chun and Laina Zhang at No. 3, 6-4, 6-3.
