I have known Hilary Cooper for about 14 years, since our kids were in kindergarten together and now they are sophomores in college. Soon after Hilary moved to Piedmont, we teamed up to co-chair the Spring Fling fundraiser for the three Piedmont elementary schools.
We were hesitant because we were both somewhat new to the community. But Hilary led our team with enthusiasm and purpose. She included parents from all of the three schools and throughout the community. Hilary is extremely organized and she doesn’t miss a beat, from the smallest details to the most important. The event would not have been possible without her. The following year we co-chaired the Giving Campaign and again, Hilary became the natural leader.
Once Hilary commits herself to something, she’s all in. She works behind the scenes to prepare for meetings and events. She is extremely knowledgeable about our community, our schools, and education in general. Her volunteer experience gives her insight into many aspects of the Piedmont schools, from budgets and funding to curriculum and bell schedules. Her past experience as a teacher gives her insight into how things really work in a classroom. Hilary is passionate about education in general, which is why she is willing to commit so much time to making sure our schools are the best they can be.
Hilary understands how important it is to consider a wide range of perspectives and she educates herself thoroughly about new topics. She handles challenging situations diplomatically, even when strong feelings are involved. I have observed Hilary lead groups of parents, teachers, and administrators through difficult conversations and come up with solutions that address everyone’s needs. Because of her thoughtful, inclusive style, I think that Hilary is perfectly suited to help lead our schools through these challenging times.
