Piedmont High School’s girls tennis team got off to a strong start to the season, with wins over Las Lomas and Head-Royce.
On Aug. 28, the Highlanders traveled to Walnut Creek to face Las Lomas in a nine-point match. Piedmont came away with an 8-1 victory.
Carolina Romanczuk won the No. 1 singles over Keira Shih, 6-2, 6-2.
Kate Jumper beat Bella Figotin at No. 2, 6-3, 6-4.
Arianna Kortum handled Peyton Ball at No. 3, 6-1, 6-1.
At No. 4, Emma Eisemon beat Lindsay Lee, 6-3, 2-6, 11-9.
At No. 5, Faith Chin defeated Alina Archibald, 6-2, 6-0.
Samantha Huynh downed Claire Su at No. 6, 6-2, 6-3.
In No. 2 doubles, Highlanders Abigail Call and Alina Shahid beat Sam Sheperd and Violet Merz, 6-4, 6-3.
At No. 3, Piedmont’s Lila Rosen and Hallie Burden defeated Kamila Sanchez and Katie Kazakova, 1-6, 6-2, 10-2.
The Knights got their point at No. 1 doubles with Christina Wong and Eva Murallo beating Maddie Tran and Inara Mehta, 7-6 (1), 7-6 (4).
On Aug. 29, the Highlanders hosted Head-Royce and came away with a 5-2 win.
Romanczuk outlasted Mia Wang at No. 1 singles, 5-7, 6-4, 6-1.
Kortum took the No. 3 match over Darya Mooshed, 6-2, 7-6 ((6). And Chin bested Ela Gorozen at No. 4, 6-3, 6-3.
Ilsa Salgado Manso won the No. 2 singles for the Jayhawks over Jumper, 6-1, 6-7 (5), 7-5.
In No. 1 doubles, Huynh and Eisemon beat Juno Yu and Isabella Wang, 6-1, 6-2. Call and Chan downed Carina Lovell and Sabrine Sarandah in No. 3, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.
Head-Royce’s Natalia Martell and Saira Bashambu defeated Mehta and Tran at No. 2, 6-0, 6-4.
