Summary: The head coach position is responsible for providing leadership and guidance to student athletes and assistant coaches within the program. The head coach will instruct athletes in fundamental skills, mental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize incremental individual and team success. The head coach reports to and works closely with the director of athletics to determine goals and direction of the program. The head coach is responsible for the health, safety and welfare of every student athlete participating in their program for Piedmont High School. The success of the lacrosse program has a strong influence on the community’s image of the entire school system, and sportsmanship is prioritized.

Key Responsibilities:

• Champion the lacrosse program and provide leadership and guidance to student athletes and assistant coaches so that it is consistent with the district and high school philosophy, goals and objectives.

• Oversee recruitment, motivate players, and foster team environment.

• Coordinate the training, instruction, conditioning, and selection of athletes at all levels within the program (varsity and junior varsity).

• Build a culture of good sportsmanship, academic achievement, and good public relations in the school and community.

• Follow all rules, policies and procedures of CIF, NCS, WACC, District, and school.

• Assist the director of athletics in the coordination of scheduling events and transportation for the sport.

• Budget for the financial responsibilities of the lacrosse program and follow rules and procedures for incurring and tracking expenditures and revenues.

• Organize, direct, and supervise practice sessions within the confines of the time(s) agreed upon by the head coach and the director of athletics.

• Maintain records and rosters for and from the director of athletics and/or principal.

• Attend all meetings (district and league) pertaining to the sport.

• Ensure the general health, welfare and safety of athletes, follow safety procedures, and promote safety culture with athletic trainer, assistant coaches, athletes and parents.

• Manage assignments and duties of the assistant coaches (volunteer and contracted) and lacrosse team parents.

• Ensure all rules, procedures and policies are followed and school facilities and property are used appropriately.

• Manage inventory and equipment to ensure general upkeep, protection, distribution, and collection.

• Complete yearly Title IX Audit surveys and report the results of the survey to the director of athletics.

• Celebrate team and individual accomplishment at team dinners and annual banquet, and inform the athletic department of letters, certificates and awards needed.

• Attend annual coaching training and keep abreast of new knowledge, ideas and techniques relating to lacrosse.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred

• Coaching certificate, health and safety certifications

• Previous coaching experience, Varsity coaching and/or collegiate player experience preferred
