Suspect was known to Piedmont Police

A man made threats to harm three Piedmont Police Department employees and was arrested by Oakland Police on August 9. According to Piedmont Police Captain Chris Monahan, the individual was known to Piedmont Police and had “several run-ins with staff” prior to sending the threats.

The man was charged with making death threats and had an outstanding warrant for vandalism, according to Captain Monahan.


At 8:02 a.m. on August 3, a white 2003 Dodge Durango set off the city’s Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system on Trestle Glen Road at Valant Place. The vehicle had been reported stolen out of San Francisco.

The vehicle was found on Park Boulevard and police saw the driver and a passenger exit the vehicle, according to Captain Monahan. He said the driver attempted to flee and was taken into custody “using approved control holds.” A search of the driver produced glass pipes, a passport reported stolen by the Stanford Police Department, shaved keys and the key to the Durango. The driver also had a warrant out of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office for possession of a stolen vehicle.

The driver complained of a pain in his ankle, according to Captain Monahan, and was taken to Highland Hospital. Once cleared, he was taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin where he was charged with possession of stolen property, possession of paraphernalia, delaying police and his warrant.

The passenger was cited and released for a warrant out of Colma for possession of paraphernalia.


At 9:38 a.m. on August 3, the ALPR system recorded a hit on a red 2004 Chevrolet Silverado four-door at Crocker and Ashmount avenues. The vehicle had been reported stolen out of Vacaville.

The vehicle was stopped at Wildwood Avenue and Crocker. The driver was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle and a parole violation. He was taken to Santa Rita Jail.


On August 4, Piedmont Police stopped a white 1999 Toyota Tacoma that didn’t have a license plate at 8:17 a.m., according to Captain Monahan. He said a VIN check showed the vehicle had been stolen out of Oakland. The driver was found to have a suspended license and the passenger had a warrant for burglary out of Oakland. Both were taken to Santa Rita Jail. The driver was booked for possession of a stolen vehicle and driving without a license. The passenger was booked for his warrant.


On August 5, a residential burglary was reported on Grand Avenue. The victim reportedly returned from vacation and found their house ransacked, according to Captain Monahan. The victim told police that musical instruments, recording equipment and other items had been taken. A detailed list and value has not been field yet.


On August 6, a parked white Acura RDX with a “false” license plate attached  was found on Santa Clara Avenue at 6:42 a.m., according to Captain Monahan. He said the VIN was covered by tinted windows. Police were able to decipher the VIN and the plate belonged to another vehicle. The car was towed.


On August 9, a theft was reported from a white 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe parked on Sunnyside Avenue. Sometime between 1 p.m. on August 8 and 11:22 a.m. on August 9, an unidentified suspect took a National Parks pass, hiking boots, a booklet containing an air tag and $15 in cash from the vehicle, according to Captain Monahan. The total loss was $375. The victim was able to track the air tag to an address in Oakland, according to Captain Monahan. There are no known witnesses or surveillance video.
