Early on the morning of July 29, an ALPR alert on a stolen Chevrolet Suburban came in. Officers found the vehicle on Warfield Avenue and attempted to stop it. Instead, the driver put the vehicle in reverse, according to Captain Monahan, and slammed into a police vehicle, rammed another police vehicle and fled up Wildwood Avenue.

The stolen vehicle was later found abandoned on Wildwood Avenue and the driver fled on foot into a
ravine, according to Captain Monahan.

He also said one of the officers was injured and that one of the police vehicles was totaled. The officer sought treatment and is still at work.

The suspect was described as a white or Hispanic male, approximately five feet, six inches tall, around 160 pounds with long hair. He was wearing a black puffy hoodie with red lining and dark pants. Anyone with information (including area residents with video surveillance) is asked to call 510-420-3000.


Two men were arrested after the vehicle they were in set off the city’s Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system on July 23. The vehicle triggered the system at 10:57 a.m.

Piedmont Police officers found the vehicle parked in the ACE Hardware lot on Grand Avenue. The two occupants were detained, according to Piedmont Police Department Captain Chris Monahan. He said a searched turned up a Glock 19 9mm handgun and an illegal 24-round high-capacity magazine.

The suspect vehicle was wanted in an assault with a deadly weapon case in Oakland. The suspects were turned over to Oakland Police and taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.


On July 23, a residence was burglarized on Magnolia Avenue between the hours of 7:30 p.m. – 9:55 p.m. Two suspects forced their way into the building through a rear window. They rifled through the living room and two bedrooms, according to Captain Monahan. The two suspects were described as young Black males with skinny builds, according to Captain Monahan, with one wearing a blue medical mask, a black hoodie and blue jeans and the other wearing a black ski mask, a light-colored hoodie and blue jeans. A third suspect was driving a gray Acura sedan, according to Captain Monahan. No loss has been reported.

Another residence was burglarized on July 23, with single unknown suspect taking a blue compressor from a residence on Olive Avenue. The police described the suspect as a heavyset Black male with a shaved head.
