Local with Lisa | 4th of July Parade in Piedmont

Moonlighting as a churro vendor for our city’s iconic event, I met and chatted up all the happy folks along the way.

Insights, stories and interviews about homeownership and living in the East Bay
From a Piedmont native, Emmy award-winning television journalist-turned-home matchmaker, part-time radio anchor, UCLA graduate, wife and mother of 3.

Lisa:  Chairs lining Highland Avenue well before the 4th of July parade is a longtime Piedmont tradition!

Stan Silver:  The excitement of seeing all the people walking by.  It’s a wonderful event, and ‘I’ve been doing this for 52 years.

Lisa:  I started what might become a tradition of my own.  A churro cart for clients, friends & family.  I was excited to welcome many of my clients to their very first Piedmont 4th of July!
This is the 57th Annual Independence Day celebration, and this year’s theme is Small Town, Big Spirit.  Even Mayor Jen Cavenaugh stopped by my churro cart!

Jen Cavenaugh: The Fourth of July is amazing! It’s kids, it’s apple pie, it’s Americana. This is what Piedmont does best. We bring the community together; people from neighboring communities all come together to enjoy this beautiful sunny day.

Lisa:  The parade runs down Highland Avenue.  It starts at Park Way and makes its way down to Piedmont Park, where there is live music and food

Jen Cavenaugh:  We’ll have dogs, we’ll have floats, we’ll have kids on bikes, we’ll have athletes, we’ll have community groups. This is what makes Piedmont special. This is all volunteer run and volunteer driven. Our city staff are at their best today supporting this effort.  It’s fantastic and we hope everyone has the best day ever.

Lisa:  Many streets have block parties after the parade.  But it’s always a good time reconnecting with friends & neighbors.
