The PBSF Piedmont Middle School Scots have etched their names in baseball lore, emerging as the indomitable force in the 2024 East Bay Middle School League. With an unblemished record of 11 wins, they stand as the top seed, ready to conquer the diamond.

In a riveting semi-final clash on Tuesday, May 14th, the Scots squared off against the Phoenixes from El Cerrito’s Korematsu Middle School at the iconic Piedmont Humphries Diamond. The stakes were high, and both teams showcased their mettle through four intense innings of shutout baseball.

Jimmy Lagios, the Scots’ ace, took the mound and delivered five flawless innings. His precision and poise stifled the Phoenixes’ offense, leaving them scoreless. But it was Dylan Toyama who broke the deadlock, drawing a bases-loaded walk in the fifth inning, allowing Max Fujimoto to sprint home. The tension escalated in the sixth inning when Ben Sorenson ignited a two-out rally with a double. Aaron Bennett’s patient walk set the stage, and then Max Fujimoto unleashed a thunderous two-out, two-RBI double, electrifying the crowd.

As the game hung in the balance, Piedmont’s Mo Mittone stepped onto the rubber for the final two innings. His flawless performance retired all six batters he faced, securing the save. Remarkably, Mo boasts an ERA of 0.000 across ten innings pitched—an impeccable record. Meanwhile, Lagios, the winning pitcher, maintains an impressive 0.362 ERA over nineteen innings.

Orion Sachs, stationed at second base, epitomized defensive excellence, flawlessly handling six chances. Behind the plate, Jonah Foster orchestrated the game, expertly controlling the few Phoenix runners who dared to challenge the Scots’ resolve.
