PHS and MHS staff share reading recs about race

The following message was shared by PUSD staff from Millennium and Piedmont High Schools

Millennium and Piedmont High School Communities:

Many members of our community came out on Wednesday in a show of solidarity and support for racial justice. We know that violence at the hands of police and protests impact our families differently, and our hearts go out to our families who are members of the African American community, and other communities who have suffered from a legacy of racism in this country. We are striving to ensure that our school communities are anti-racist, and there is much work ahead.

If school were in session, we would no doubt be holding class conversations to help our students process their questions and feelings. With that in mind, we are providing a list of resources for families and students. We encourage you to consider adding something from the list to your summer reading and discussing it as a family. We are each grappling with our role and responsibilities around creating a more just and equitable society. We look forward to continuing this work together with you all in the fall.

In partnership,
Shannon Fierro, Adam Littlefield, Irma Muñoz & Erin Igoe
