Piedmont High School senior Nina Schwab took 16th out of a stellar field at the California Interscholastic Federation diving championships. The competition took place May 9 at Clovis West.
Schwab scored 429.55 points in the finals. North Coast Section champion Molly Gray of Clayton Valley finished first with 530.40.
Schwab began diving about a year and a half ago and became one of the top divers in the Bay Area. She finished ninth at the 2023 NCS championships and improved to fourth this year.
“It was a decent meet,” Schwab said. “It was really fun. I was excited to be there. There were a lot of amazing divers there.” She called her performance decent as well, saying she hit the board with her legs and heels a couple of times and that it got in her head a bit. “I think I did really well knowing that was going on,” she said. “It was not a big deal.”
Schwab will have a busy summer before heading off to dive at Carleton College in Minnesota. She recently qualified to the USA zones, which could lead to qualifying for USA nationals. She also has her eyes on AAU nationals during the summer.
