According to an update from PUSD, the District is preparing to demolish the PHS Administration Building (also known as the “10s Building”) on June 8, paving the way for the construction of the new Performing Arts Center/New Alan Harvey Theater on its site.
Additionally, PUSD says:
-The new STEAM building (for the study of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) is on schedule for completion in early August.
-The white sheath and scaffolding which have enclosed the building since February will be removed later this month, after the exterior stucco work is completed.
-Once the scaffolding is removed, landscaping and other site work will begin, including replacement of sidewalks and planting of street trees.
-This work is expected to be completed for the start of the 2020-21 school year in August.”
Changes to Parking and Traffic
Starting this week, the active construction zone will be expanded to include the area along Magnolia Avenue between Bonita and Highland Avenues, as shown here:
Twenty parking spaces between Bonita and Highland Avenues will be temporarily eliminated through completion of the Performing Arts Center. Completion is expected in the late Fall of 2021. These 20 parking spaces include 14 “Permit A” spaces that are reserved at times for teachers, and six spaces that are reserved at times for City staff.
When the STEAM building is completed, parking spaces along the north side of Magnolia (bordering the Recreation Center) will be restored. The south side of Magnolia (bordering the STEAM building) will remain a white loading zone, pending city approval.
All student drop-off and pick up for the middle and high schools will take place in this white zone. Cars will not be permitted to stop or load and unload passengers between Bonita and Highland Avenues. Accordingly, the orange “K rails” — which prevent cars from stopping in front of the active construction area — will be relocated to this segment of Magnolia Avenue.
The District is continuing to ask the community to avoid driving on Magnolia Avenue between Hillside Avenue and Highland Avenue if possible, to help avoid or reduce congestion around the construction site.
