The Piedmont High School swim team dominated rival Bishop O’Dowd in the final dual meet of the season Friday April 19. The boys’ team secured a decisive victory with a score of 186-61, while the girls’ team won with a score of 148-108.
Coach Colby Price expressed immense pride in his team’s performance, especially after facing challenges in previous years. “We absolutely crushed our rival after a couple of years hindered by injury,” said Coach Price. “It was exciting to have the team at full strength against our rival and to be able to perform when we needed to.”
Coach Price said there were several standout performances, including Cole Carnazzo’s thrilling 500 against two of Bishop O’Dowd’s best swimmers. Additionally, the 200 free swimmers, Samantha White, Taylor Rolefson, and Dima Secor, dominated their event.
The meet also marked Senior Night, a special occasion to celebrate the team’s seniors and their contributions. Coach Price expressed gratitude to the parents who organized the celebration, ensuring that the seniors were honored in a meaningful way. “We were happy to celebrate all the seniors and their accomplishments,” said Coach Price. “We got to announce their post-PHS plans, and they went home with a small gift to remind them of their days at PHS.”
Three of Piedmont High School’s senior swimmers have committed to continuing their swimming careers in college. Taylor Rolefson will be attending Bates College, Tom Rolefson will be attending Hamilton College, and Nina Schwab will be diving at Carleton College.
Looking ahead, both the boys’ and girls’ teams are poised for success in the upcoming WACC league championships. With the team currently seeded first in overall power points and nine of the top 20 swimmers signed up for the event, the team is gearing up for another impressive showing as they strive for league championship titles.
