The Piedmont Recreation Department’s Walking on Wednesdays group for active adults announced today that it will return to the Mountain View Cemetery on April 17 for a special 6th anniversary spring tour of the cemetery conducted by author and long-time Mountain View docent Dennis Evanosky.
This tour by Evanosky will be his second with Walking on Wednesdays. He took the group for an extremely well-received one in April 2023. Evanosky is the historian for the Alameda Post newspaper. He has “history in his blood” and has written two books about Oakland’s history: “Oakland’s Laurel District” and “Oakland’s Mountain View Cemetery.” He’s also written books about Alameda and San Francisco.
The April 17 tour falls during the week of the Wednesday Walkers’ 6th anniversary. Their first walk was April 18, 2018, and a visit to the cemetery with its beautiful spring flowers and expansive views of Oakland, the Bay, and San Francisco will be a wonderful way to celebrate this fun activity.
Rather than meeting at the Exedra vase as the Walking on Wednesdays group usually does, walkers will meet in front of Mountain View’s main mausoleum. The cemetery is located at 5000 Piedmont Avenue at the end of Piedmont Avenue in Oakland. There is parking on the streets inside the cemetery.
The tour will start at 10:30 a.m. and last for about 1 hour and 30 minutes.
