The latest developments around the region related to the novel coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, as of Thursday afternoon include:
- San Francisco Pride will hold its 50th pride celebration online next month due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, pride organizers announced Wednesday. The celebration will take place on June 27 and 28 and will include live performances, speeches from elected officials and LGBTQ leaders, as well as appearances by the Pride grand marshals.
- A fifth member of the Oakland Police Department has tested positive for the coronavirus, police said Wednesday. The positive test came back Wednesday and the person is self-quarantining offsite. They haven’t shown any symptoms and haven’t been to work since Tuesday, police said.
- Alameda County Superior Court announced Wednesday it will resume hearings for small claims trials, civil harassment, elder abuse, gun violence and domestic violence restraining orders remotely beginning June 1. Because of Alameda County’s ongoing shelter-in-place restrictions due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, the court and its clerk’s office locations will remain closed to the public.
- San Francisco’s oldest gay bar The Stud announced Wednesday it’s closing its doors for good due to lack of revenue as a result of the novel coronavirus pandemic. Despite a fundraiser and weekly online drag shows, the historic bar at 399 Ninth St. was unable to stay afloat and will close permanently after 55 years.
- As of Thursday at 3 p.m., officials have confirmed the following number of cases in the greater Bay Area region (“+” number added since last check Wed., May 20):
- Alameda County: 2,609 cases (+49), 90 deaths (+2)
- Contra Costa County: 1,234 cases (+15), 36 deaths (+3)
- Marin County: 343 cases (+7), 14 deaths
- Monterey County: 355 cases (+6), 8 deaths
- Napa County: 95 cases (+1), 3 deaths
- San Francisco County: 2,198 cases (+13), 37 deaths
- San Mateo County: 1,738 cases, (+41) 75 deaths
- Santa Clara County: 2,492 cases, 138 deaths
- Santa Cruz County: 174 cases (+6), 2 deaths
- Solano County: 435 cases (+5), 18 deaths (+2)
- Sonoma County: 433 cases (+22), 4 deaths
- Statewide: 86,197 cases (+2,140), 3,542 deaths (+106)
