The latest developments around the region related to the novel coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, as of Wednesday afternoon include:
- COVID-19 coronavirus testing is now available to all Santa Clara County residents at two different locations. Verily Life Sciences, the life science research arm of Alphabet Inc., will offer free testing to all county residents, even if they don’t have symptoms or health insurance, at Police Athletic League Stadium at 680 S. 34th St. and the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds at 344 Tully Road.
- The Contra Costa County Clerk-Recorder’s Office announcing this week that it is performing civil marriage ceremonies via Zoom or FaceTime for people having their weddings online during the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic and resulting shelter-in-place order.
- Shopping malls, swap meets, other retail stores, dine-in restaurants and schools can open or will be opening in Napa County amid the coronavirus crisis, county officials said Tuesday. Businesses can open immediately and schools can open June 1, both with adaptations. The changes come after county officials told their state counterparts that they meet the state’s criteria for an expanded reopening under stage two of a four-stage process.
- The city of Hayward is changing the configuration of parking spots in certain commercial areas this week to accommodate the change in the Alameda County shelter-in-place order that now allows curbside retail activity amid the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
