The PHS Advanced Acting class formally invites you to their Spring performances of the drama The Laramie Project by Moisés Kaufman and the members of the Tectonic Theater Project (Leigh Fondakowski, writer-director; Stephen Belber, Greg Pierotti, Barbara Pitts, Stephen Wangh, Amanda Gronich, Sara Lambert, John McAdams, Maude Mitchell, Andy Paris, and Kelli Simpkins) on Thursday, March 21; Friday, March 22; and Saturday, March 23, with all performances beginning at 7 p.m.
The Laramie Project is a true story that presents a deeply complex portrait of homophobia, justice, and acceptance, following a community’s response to the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard, a young gay man living in Laramie, Wyoming. In a series of personal reflections, the residents of Laramie react to the hate crime and surrounding media storm.
The cast includes Breah Bell, Logan Faucher, Ella Fleischer, Jacob Hanke, Sophie Hess, Miranda Long, Charlotte Mascola, Alexis Montero Castro, Phoenix Nwokedi, Ella Puckett, Macy Puckett, Benjamin Sachs, Dahlia Saffouri, Clio Salzer, Friedie Schickedanz, Martha Schickedanz, Xander Schulte Sasse, Sadie Shoop, Louisa Symkowick, Eve Tellegen, Isabella Wire.
The Laramie Project is seen as a groundbreaking piece of theater, and it has been seen by more than 10 million people in many countries. The Laramie Project was the 10th-most-frequently produced non-musical play on high school stages in 2011-12, according to the Educational Theatre Association.
“It’s the goal of the Matthew Shepard Foundation to create an environment where people are afforded an opportunity to discuss the play and its messages, the hate they encounter in their own lives, and how they can work collectively to build a more understanding and compassionate community,” said Shepard Foundation Executive Vice President of Strategy and Communications Dana Juniel.
