The Drink | The Lede

Don’t bury this newsworthy concoction.

The perfect balance of sweet and tart, it’s just right for cozy winter gatherings. This is a very simple recipe that calls for Falernum, a rum-based simple syrup with clove seasonings. (Eddie’s Liquors on College carries it — but stay away from the non-alcoholic variation that I’ve seen around which has lots of faux flavorings.)

ingredients
  • 1.5 oz bourbon
  • 1 oz fresh-squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 oz Falernum
  • Orange bitters, dash
  • Twist of lemon
  • Optional half dozen or so pomegranate seeds for holiday color
directions
  1. Combine bourbon, lemon juice and Falernum in shaker with ice
  2. Shake and pour over ice
  3. Add dash of bitters, lemon twist (and pomegranate seeds if using)
