Girls tennis to wrap regular season

Piedmont High School’s girls tennis team defeated host Berkeley 4-3 on October 24.

The teams split the singles and the Highlanders won two out of three in doubles.

Emma Chan and Maddie Tran defeated Gaia Giliberti and Ezra Abarbanel at No. 2 doubles, 6-4, 6-2. Inara Mehta and Abigail Call downed Maya Gearen and Sarah Marsh at No. 3, 6-0, 6-1. The Yellowjackets Elanna Kunis and Erin Iao beat Samantha Huynh and Emma Eisemon at No. 1, 6-3, 6-2.

In singles, Piedmont’s Kate Jumper topped Elliot Schrag at No. 2, 3-6, 6-0, 6-0. At No. 4, the Highlanders Faith Chin beat Vera Ertel, 6-1, 6-2.

Berkeley got a win at No. 1 from Sam Loptain, who outlasted Carolina Romanczuk, 6-3, 6-7 (6), 7-5. Ariana Alharazy beat Arianna Kortum, 6-3, 6-1.

Piedmont was scheduled to end the regular season on October 29 against Bishop O’Dowd at Merritt College. The Highlanders are 4-3 in West Alameda County Conference Foothil Division play. The WACC Tournament is scheduled for November 8-9 at a site to be determined.
